Temperatures are dropping as winter approaches and people have already prepared their clothes for the cold season. But are they thinking about wearing thick wool socks while sleeping?
According to a study, wearing socks improves nights and people gain precious minutes of sleep.
South Korean researchers, Yelin Ko and Joo-Young Lee, came to this conclusion, LCI reports.
Their investigations, published in the US National Library of Medicine, were carried out on a sample of six young people without sleep disorders and with a healthy lifestyle.
For several nights, they wore or did not wear socks and several measurements were taken.
According to the test results, those who wore socks fell asleep 7 minutes earlier than the others and their sleep was extended by 32 minutes compared to the others.
In addition, they woke up seven times less often. How can such a difference be explained?
It is not surprising that the socks provide comfort, but especially warmth: the temperature of the feet when covered increased by 1.3 degrees and was distributed throughout the body according to the principle of thermoregulation.
Researchers recommend wearing socks specially designed for nights: made of soft and elastic material so as not to block blood circulation.
