Charlie Kirk’s grieving widow, Erika, continues to speak out since the tragic shooting death of her husband.
Kirk described a surreal, haunting moment as she saw her husband’s body following his assassination.
Speaking to the New York Times and at his memorial service, she recounted what she saw after seeing his body right after his untimely death.
“I’m looking at the clouds and the mountains,” Erika told the Times of her flight back to Provo after Kirk’s death.
“It was such a gorgeous day, and I was thinking: This is exactly what he last saw.”
Hospital officials had advised her not to see his body after his death, but she insisted: “With all due respect, I want to see what they did to my husband.”
“His eyes were semi-open,” she said. “And he had this knowing, Mona Lisa-like half-smile. Like he’d died happy. Like Jesus rescued him. The bullet came, he blinked, and he was in heaven.”
Erika stated that the sheriff advised her against seeing her husband’s body due to the damage the bullet had done to his neck.
In that moment, she was able to kiss her beloved goodbye at the hospital, which was something she was unable to do that fateful morning before he arrived at a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.

“My husband, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life,” she began.
“That man, that young man, I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do.”
“The answer to hate is not hate,” the widow added.
“The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love, love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”
